Ethics class musings

Somehow, our business ethics classes are very interesting. I swear , only a few other things interest me besides well- presented opinions and a crafty discussion.  The facilitator of our course has a point of view, sometimes rather controversial (she gets ultra- defensive sometimes). A generation gap is evident (she tries hard to connect to our generation, often in vain), and so her context: she is a yoga practitioner, a fan of scriptures, a mother of 3 and half year old daughter. She is rather patriotic and has a soft corner for all things noble and charitable. The delivery of the classes apart,  the content she brings to the course is worth reflecting. These classes are not heavy and sapping, and a refreshing respite for me. I just hope they took place in a garden or a nice picnic spot, where a huge group gathered for a battle of the minds, beliefs and wits.

Each day is a test, that is what I have realised. Its a test of our ethics and integrity, and our decision making capacity. it is about ethics, and we hardly need classes for that. Yet, its a good idea to thing about "What Ifs" and present your opinion. My mom now thinks such discussions and pondering are a waste of energy, but  I miss times when my mom used to oblige me for long discussions on ethics over long walks and trips. I think now I am too busy for it too, and she is recuperating. Ethics are work in progress, nothing wrong or right, just real.

hmmm...never thought you liked the classes so much. i agree with you, classes such as ethics or entrepreneurship are not closed room subjects, they are the birds of the open sky, to be taught in the in the freedom of the outside (external) environment!

ethics- its easy to write so much about it..look back in your life and ull realise how much you have followed it..true for the teacher as well as the student

simple example- have you ever wanted to evade tax? or have you ever bribed a policeman who caught you while jumping a red light..easy to be taught, tough to be practiced...

how does one preach something if they dont follow it themselves, n how do you find somethings 'interesting' if your feelings arnt in sink!!

@Anonymous, discussion on such issues is important, there is little black or white, that's my point. Preaching is not my intention while putting this down. If one is unethical somewhere then karma also plays a part, and one has to pay for it too. Sooner or later. One interesting point you have raised: wanting to evade tax and actually evading tax would be 2 diff things or are they... what do you think wanting something unethical is also unethical??

wanting something unethical and doing something unethical are 2 diff things..but if you think about something (ethical/unethical), ud try to make it happen..else y wud u waste so much time n energy on it.
so thinking something unethical is a step towards doing something unethical.

Ok, valid. Though I think action counts more than thoughts. That is to say that ethical thoughts and unethical actions still make the person unethical and vice versa.
Yes, the thoughts get manifested into action but there are some complexities of the human mind that brings in contradictions in thought and action.
The human mind has over 50000 thoughts per day In this chaos of the human brain, it is impossible to understand what all goes behind, actions though are easier to judge.
